At Scoil Mhuire de Lourdes we believe that a happy child is a successful one. We are committed to providing a positive, safe and stimulating environment for children to learn, where all are valued. We intend that all children should enjoy their learning, achieve their potential and become independent life-long learners.
Tá áit lárnach ag ár teanga dhúchais sa scoil. Tá béim cúrtha ar cultúr na hÉireann anseo i Scoil Mhuire de Lourdes. Spreagtar na páistí grá a chothú don teanga agus don chultúr i slí taitneamhach neamhfhoirmiúil, chomh maith le go hacadúil. Cithfimid an tabhacht a bhaineann le teanga agus féiniúlacht. Táimid den tuairim gur rud fíor buntáistiuíl í an Gaeilge agus gur féidir í a úsáid agus a chur chun cinn go dearfach i do shaol amach anseo.
As we are a small rural school, a sense of community is very important to us, or as the Irish proverb says ‘Ar scáth a chéíle a mhaireann na daoine’ (We all depend on/need each other) We encourage and foster the importance of being part of a wider community and often take part in community events. This reinforces local roots and strengthens ties which gives everybody a sense of belonging to our school community, and also the wider local community.
Care and personal responsibility for the environment is taught and actively practised in our school. Participation in recycling campaigns, anti-litter initiatives and the attainment of our Green flag are just some ways environmental care is carried out. Reducing plastic, water and heat conservational as well as learning about waste disposal are some of our everyday practices.
GAA has always played an important role in our school, and winning Cumann na mBunscol as well players representing the school in mini 7’s and skills competitions in both codes are just some of our achievements.Our school has produced GAA players that have gone on to excel and achieve the highest honours in both hurling and football for Kerry, which we are very proud of. Some past and present Kerry footballers and hurlers include Éamonn Fitzmaurice,Paul Galvin, Michael Conway, John Griffin, Shane Conway, Martin Stackpoole, Johnny Buckley, Conor O’Keefe and Darragh Shanhan to name but a few.
Accolades in art, drama and music ensure that there is a broad spectrum of talents fostered in the school. It is our aim to encourage each child to be independent and develop a sense of responsibility for themselves, while being nurtured in a positive progressive setting.
Ag foghlaim le chéile is our school motto, which means learning together. That is the core belief of our school, through mutual respect and trust, that we all learn together.
